Unit 16Task2 AS2 - In Camera Editing

What is In Camera Editing ?

In Camera editing is a technique of video production, in which the operator shoots the shots in the exact order the will be viewed in. This technique was used frequently in the early days of film making. One of the most famous in-camera editors George Melies.

The process takes immense amounts of planning so that the shots that are filmed are the ones that willbe viewed in directly that order. There are no cutting out and editing scenes later on. When the very last scene is filmed by the camera operator. the production is completely finished.

Some directors in recent years have used in-camera editing to add extra layer of art to their film e.g. Alfred Hitchcock.

Here is an example of an video i've made using In Camera Editing:

To create this short clip we started by deciding on who will feature in the film and where it will be set. We decided  to use a classroom to do our filming because, it was spacious and empty so it wouldn't be messy in the background.
We were all assigned different roles i.e. characters, director. Once these roles were set, we create a storyboard. Before we started filming we chose the position and angle we wanted the camera in and we also had to change the lighting in the room so it wasn't too light.

What did we find difficult?

The only element we found difficult while filming was, trying to stay professional and trying to not directly at the camera or laugh. The reason we found this difficult is because, it was the first time we've ever done filming so it was completely new to us and we found it hard to concentrate on the task. So this could be improved.

What went well?

We worked very well as a group which is important. We all agreed on most aspects of the film and if we disagreed on anything we decided on a way we could change it. This enabled as to produce our film to the best of our ability.
